The mayor of the Ukrainian city of Mariupol told the BBC that he still does not know exactly how many victims there are in the city from the war, but so far 1207 victims have been confirmed.
These are bodies that we found on the street, said Serhiy Orlov.
He said 47 people were buried in a mass grave as it was not possible to get out of the cemetery outside the city, while adding that none of the victims have been identified.
Orlov said it was not impossible to evacuate people from the city and bring help.
More than 100 people had tried to leave in private cars, but returned when Russian forces fired in their direction.
The Red Cross says people are in appalling conditions in Mariupol.
The head of the organization’s delegation to the city, Sasha Volkov, says many families have been left without enough food to feed their children.
