Three songs by former King of Pop Michael Jackson have been removed from streaming services, following persistent claims that they contain fake vocals.
“Monster,” “Keep Your Head Up” and “Breaking News” all featured on Jackson’s posthumous compilation album.
The songs have since been the subject of a court case brought by a fan who claims the vocals are from another singer.
Sony Music said their removal from streaming sites had nothing to do with their authenticity.
In a statement, they described the action as the simplest and best way to move beyond the conversation associated with these tracks once and for all. The statement states that:
“The focus remains where it belongs, on exciting new and existing projects that celebrate Michael Jackson’s legacy. The remaining album tracks remain available. Nothing should be read into this action about the authenticity of the tracks, it’s just time to move beyond the distraction surrounding them.”
Released in 2010, Michael was the first album of unreleased music to appear since Jackson’s death in 2009. When released, the back cover of the Michael album stated that:
“This album features nine previously unreleased vocal tracks performed by Michael Jackson. These songs were recently completed using music from original vocal tracks and music created by acclaimed producers.”
However, after hearing the music, fans were suspicious of three songs in particular. Even before the album was released, the star’s family raised doubts about whether he had performed on all the songs.
Sony Music denied the allegations. The official story is that Jackson wrote and recorded the songs with production team Edward Cascio and James Porte in 2007.
However, rumors claimed that the vocals were provided by an American singer named Jason Malachi, who took credit in a 2011 Facebook post.
His manager later denied this, claiming the post was fake. We recall that recently the manager of Michael Jackson’s estate sued a man who was engaged to one of his sisters for stealing items from the singer’s house after he passed away.
According to legal documents, obtained by ‘The Sun’, Jeffre Phillips was said to be engaged to one of Michael’s sisters when the latter passed away.
