Afghans have returned to normal life in Albania, opening their first businesses.
One is in Shengjin where traditional Afghan food is offered
“Our life is going very well here, even though a part of our heart is there, but we have somehow tried to get through it. When we came to Albania, we missed Afghan food very much. In fact, we missed a lot of things from Afghanistan, but the only thing we could bring was Afghan food. At first my friends and I thought about cooking only for ourselves, but we saw that this building was empty and why not we decided to take it and so we could cook and serve our community as well.Says WalWala Jalalza.
Ualala tells us more about the menu they offer in the restaurant and how to prepare the 2 most famous dishes of their country. She also adds that cooking has been like a therapy during the time they are staying in Shengjin.
“At the moment, we are preparing two types of food, ashek and bulani, which are the most famous foods of Afghanistan, where bulani is more or less like the Albanian pie. We have different clients, Albanian, American, but most of them are Afghans.
There is still no Albanian food on their menu, but she says that if they stay longer in our country, their restaurant will also offer traditional Albanian food.
“I have not tried Albanian food yet, but I am looking for a place that makes traditional Albanian food and why not if we stay longer, we can include it in our menu”.
