As specialists had predicted, as never before Greece has registered 21657 new coronavirus infections in the last 24 hours, when the record was set yesterday with over 9200 cases.
In the prefecture of Attica alone, which includes Athens, 9882 infections were registered, while in Thessaloniki 2665. The average age of those affected is only 38 years old.
Also with 60 loss of life today, the number of victims from Covid 19 has reached 20,557, 95.2% of them with aggravated health history and over 70 years old. The number of intubators still remains high, 635 with an age of 63 years, of which 85% are unvaccinated.
Meanwhile the average number of daily hospitalizations has gone to 340 patients having an increase of 17.6%.
The increase in cases, the number of victims and the repeated measures have also ignited the political war in the country. As the government accuses the opposition of being irresponsible in this time of pandemic, the main opposition party Syriza shoots the prime minister who is on vacation at a time when the country is recording a record daily coronavirus cases.
Specialists demand that the additional measures which the government announced yesterday for January 3, start to be implemented immediately now and not after the New Year’s holiday because then it will be too late.
