Instead of picking up sticks, playing or rolling in the grass, owners of high-tech robot dogs appear to be using their creatures to kill people.
Today, images of a robot dog with a machine gun installed on its back, firing at targets, thus becoming a component of the war industry, spread online.
Shooting indiscriminately with its weapon, the robot moves around without being commanded by any human, to the terrifying sight of anyone.
The vehicle looks like one of the dogs of the American company Boston Dynamics, which until now was seen on the Internet jumping and walking.
But the Metro.co.uk network says that the dog is a unit of the Chinese company Unitree ‘Yusu’ that has a PP-19 Vityaz machine gun on its back.
American Network Vice said the video was originally posted on the YouTube account of Alexander Atamanov, the head of a Russian technology company.
But the idea of installing weapons on robot dogs is not something new, as it was previously done by the American company SWORD that had tried something like this last year.
They mounted a machine gun on the back of the Quadrupedal Unmanned Ground Vehicle (Q-UGV) robot dog made by the Philadelphia group Ghost Robotics.
American Grui says the dog can be controlled with a program installed on a tablet, and some initial versions are being used by the US military.
It is not yet whether there will be positive consequences for the communities of the application of this armed object, which will therefore be independent to use its “intelligence” to select targets.
