Albania, says Euractiv, ranks first in the region and fifth in Eastern Europe and Central Asia for the number of COVID infections registered in the period January 2020-September 2021.

The average rate of infections is 433 per 1000 inhabitants. In the list, the highest figure was Afghanistan with 988. From the region, after Albania came northern Macedonia with 838 infections per 1000 inhabitants, Bosnia and Herzegovina with 717 and Serbia with 552.
The good news for our country however, is the mortality ratio. Although infections are high, the mortality rate in Albania is 4.49 per 1000 inhabitants compared to 5.43 in Bosnia and Herzegovina and 6.52 in northern Macedonia. The global average is calculated at 3.4.
Earlier, the Infectious Diseases Commission of Northern Macedonia announced that it would consider changing the protocol for identifying persons who died of COVID-19. It is possible that those who have other diseases as the main cause of death and not the diagnosis of COVID-19 disease should not be included in the daily reports.
According to this commission, experts expect the pandemic to gradually turn into an endemic, which means that “the virus will continue to be among us, but will appear in certain groups, places, populations and is not expected to have such severe or such consequences. many deaths ”.
