One in three people over the age of 18 in Albania suffers from high blood pressure, but there are many others who have hypertension and do not know it.
The main causes are sedentary lifestyle, unhealthy foods, use of tobacco, alcohol and various drugs used by young people.
“The problem is the tension at young ages. “There is a lot of young people under 45 who have tension”, says prof. Mihal Tase, head of the Internal Medicine and Hypertension service.
Hypertension is considered the biggest killer as it damages the major organs. 900 deaths a year are caused by high blood pressure.
Prof Tase explains that high blood pressure is treatable, but we need to become aware of it to prevent it, by changing our lifestyle.
In addition to individual care, all health structures and not only should intervene, to reformulate products that are put on the market and restrictions on products with high salt and sugar content, by imposing higher taxes.
