The death toll from a Russian attack on an apartment block in Donetsk has risen to 34, according to Ukrainian officials.
The residential building in the town of Chasiv Yar was hit on Saturday evening as Russia once again stepped up its attacks on cities and towns in eastern Ukraine in an attempt to take control of the entire Donbas area.
At least 34 people died and at least nine were wounded in the attack, Pavlo Kyrylenko, head of the Donetsk region’s military administration, said on his official Telegram channel on Tuesday. One of the victims was a minor.
The rescue operation is continuing and emergency services have cleared about 70% of the wreckage, Kyrylenko said.
Chasiv Yar and other towns in Donetsk have come under Russian bombardment in recent days as Russian forces try to overwhelm Ukrainian resistance in the area and move further west towards Kramatorsk and Sloviansk.
