The UK’s new education minister, Andrea Jenkyns, made an awkward gesture by showing the middle finger to protesters gathered outside the prime minister’s office in London’s Downing Street.
Jenkyns was appointed minister shortly before Boris Johnson announced that he would step down as head of the British government.
Jenkyns said he made the unpleasant gesture as a “large crowd” outside was heckling MPs as they entered.
Explaining her actions, she tweeted how she had suffered “huge amounts of abuse from some of the people who were there over the years, and I’ve also had seven death threats in the last four years.”
“Two of which have been in recent weeks and are currently being investigated by the police. I answered and got defensive. Why should I put up with this kind of treatment? I should have shown more composure, but I’m just human”she said.
Is it too much to ask in? @BorisJohnson Britain that the new Education Minister sets an example to our nation’s children and does not show the general public her middle finger. pic.twitter.com/MHlkZvIIBL

Jenkyns is a Conservative politician who came to the prime minister’s office to support him before he announced his resignation.
We emphasize that after several events, Johnson resigned, while he will lead the British government until the new prime minister is elected.
