The head of a Mexican drug cartel wanted in about 100 states has been arrested after his model girlfriend posted photos of the two on social media.
39-year-old Brian Donaciano Olguin Berdugo – otherwise known as Pitt – was arrested at an apartment in the Colombian city of Cali.
His capture came after his model girlfriend, with whom he had spent several nights in a luxury hotel, posted the photos and their location on her Facebook account.
The Mexican had come to Colombia to close cocaine purchase deals with local cartels, according to media reports on behalf of the powerful Sinaloa cartel.
Local media reported that during the days with his girlfriend, whose name has not been made public by the authorities, Bedrugo had waived security protocols, making it possible to locate him.
The girl reportedly persuaded him to meet her at the popular Cerro de los Cristales resort, where he was photographed.
Consequently his fate was sealed when U.S. anti-drug agents notified Colombian colleagues of the suspect’s whereabouts.
Reports said airport security cameras Jose Maria Cordova had photographed him with another attractive girl.
Colombian agents had begun to pursue Berdugo and after two weeks of surveillance had arrested him.
Local police spokesman Jorge Vargas Valencia said: “We believe this result is significant in terms of apprehending Mexican cartel delegates who come here to trade drugs and weapons with rebel factions.”
