Covid 19 has caused more severe consequences than those seen in the population. In addition to accelerating and aggravating the disease, Coronavirus has reduced human lifespan.
According to the latest data published by Eurostat, the consequences of Covid 19 have been more severe in Albania and Northern Macedonia.
Across Europe, life expectancy decreased by almost 9 months, while in Albania and Northern Macedonia the reduction in life expectancy was estimated at 2.2 in Macedonia and 1.7 in Albania from 2019 to 2020.
In Albania, life expectancy decreased the most in its central part. Tirana and Elbasan recorded a decrease in life expectancy in 2020 by almost 2 years and seven months. In this region, according to INSTAT, an Albanian lived on average 81 years and 6 months in 2019, while in 2020 life expectancy decreased to 78.9.
While in the north of the country life expectancy decreased by 1.4 years. If in 2019 life expectancy was 78.7 in 2019 it dropped to 77.3 in 2020. In other regions of the country the decline in life expectancy was milder.
The decrease in the number of births, emigration to EU countries and recently the increase in mortality due to the Covid pandemic, which continues to cause consequences are expected to significantly reduce the number of Albanians living within the Albanian territory.
