UK Home Secretary Priti Patel has criticized the European Court of Human Rights after its interventions halted the first flight of asylum seekers to Rwanda.
The plane was waiting on a runway of the Ministry of Defense on Tuesday evening, when the European Court of Human Rights issued last-minute orders to stop the deportation of migrants on board.
The Secretary of the Interior said: “It is very surprising that the European Court of Human Rights has intervened despite our repeated repeated successes in our domestic courts.
English judges at the Court of Appeal had ruled on Monday that the flight could resume following a legal challenge by activists, who say the government’s plan to send some migrants to the East African country is inhumane.
Ministers have defended the policy, saying it is necessary to stop the smuggling of illegal people in small boats across the English Channel.
Patel said the government will not be prevented from doing the right thing and implementing plans to control the country’s borders after the flight was canceled.
A source said the plane, which was expected to fly to Boscombe Down in Wiltshire, would not depart due to “last-minute interference by the European Court of Human Rights”.
Ms Patel warned that “many of those removed from the flight will be placed on the next flight”, adding that she was “disappointed” that the legal challenge meant he could not leave.
“These recurring legal barriers are similar to those we experience with other departure flights and many of those removed from this flight will be placed on future flights.
“We will not be prevented from doing the right thing and realizing our plans to control the borders of our country. “Our legal team is reviewing any decision made on this flight and preparation for the next flight begins now.”
