In the joint meeting between the governments of Kosovo and Albania, today was agreed the agreement that paves the way for customs union and trade facilitation between the countries.
In a discussion this evening on “Top Story”, analysts are of the opinion that the cooperation between the two governments is positive, but more work is needed to resolve some issues such as non-customs tariffs and setting the same standards between the two countries.
“Customs union is a long process, it does not end with just one signing“, Says Berat Rukiqi, President of the Kosovo Chamber of Commerce.
“Çthe issue that creates conflict is about non-tariff and technical barriers. We debated milk, cement, wheat. It is not just about the trailers of Albania and Kosovo. These are the trailers that come to Durrës and cross to Kosovo to then go to other countries “, aargues the economics journalist, Bardh Sejdarasi.
However, the journalist adds, the agreements between the two countries have been partially implemented and more will is needed from the parties.
Professor Ardian Civici emphasizes that “We must accept common standards for both countries, while non-tariff barriers are also between the countries of the region”.
On the other hand, Deputy Minister of Finance Besart Kadia estimates that with the signed agreement the control of vehicles transporting goods is reduced by 90%.
“The time it took for the trailers to be scanned was also a concern. It is set that from 100%, the control be done at 10%. So, based on the risk, only a part of them should be controlled. “This is positive.”
Agreements were signed today in Pristina for important projects in infrastructure and energy, focusing mainly on the development of the new Port of Durres which is expected to have the Dry Port in Pristina and the Pristina-Durres railway project.
The parties expressed their commitment by signing other agreements in the field of agriculture, tourism, health, education and public safety, whether in the exchange of information or experiences between the two countries in these sectors.
The parties have signed about 127 agreements during government meetings over the years, but so far only 65 of them are being implemented.
The signing of new memoranda of cooperation comes in the wake of efforts to further facilitate the lives of citizens between countries.
