Orthodox believers in Fier have celebrated this morning the day of blessed water.
On this occasion, the church of St. George of this city has organized the throwing of the cross into the water.
The procession started with the mass in the church and then the long line of believers headed to the fountain in Europe Square, where, as for every other year, the throwing of the cross into the water is followed. In the presence of hundreds of Orthodox believers as well as other citizens, the moment of throwing the cross into the water was followed. Some young people according to custom in such ceremonies even though the temperatures were low were thrown into the water when the cross was thrown into the water, motivated to win the trophy and then the reward.
It was 18-year-old Athanas David who pulled the cross out of the water for the seventh year in a row. He handed over the cross to Metropolitan Father Nikola who also blessed him.
However, this orthodox religious rite is marked as the day of the Holy Trinity when Christ, after turning 33, was baptized by the waters of the Jordan River by John the Baptist. Today all the flowing waters are blessed by God and everyone rushes to fill the water and store it for almost a year at home to come again January 6th of the following year.
