Former Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko has called on the country’s allies to “close the skies” over Ukraine.
In an interview with the BBC, she said Ukraine appreciated the sanctions imposed on Russia since the beginning of the occupation, but said that Ukraine was currently seeking further assistance.
“That aid is closing the skies over Ukraine,” Tymoshenko said, adding that this could be done through coalitions of countries around Ukraine.
Regarding NATO’s claim that the deployment of a no-fly zone over Ukraine by NATO could escalate the situation, Tymoshenko stressed that “there is no need to obtain NATO permission” to do so.
She also demanded that the UN Security Council peacekeeping troops be sent to Ukraine and that the latest anti-aircraft systems be made available to Ukraine.
