The price of fuel has increased significantly in our country as well. For a liter of diesel or gasoline you have to pay a few cents more, but this burdens the pockets of citizens.
Even this fuel price may rise again. If this is justified by price movements in international markets and the tense Russia-Ukraine situation, citizens and consumer protection associations demand state intervention.
Fear of a Russian invasion of Ukraine caused oil to trade at $ 90 a barrel on the stock exchange for the first time in many years.
The President of the Association of Oilmen, Fadil Berjani, says that the current price in Kosovo is the cheapest in the region but warns that the increase in oil prices will continue and may even be at levels never seen before.
“It is known that the price is determined by stock exchanges and production organizations, today the prices are approximately in Kosovo 1.23 diesel up to 1 euro and 30 cents, while gasoline 1.25 to 1 euro and 35 cents […] The price is rising sharply, we have an increase of wholesale oil derivatives every day 25 dollars in it, while in retail there is no movement for a week, but this is not happening only in Kosovo but in the whole globe, will means in international markets the price is rising is also being reflected in us in Kosovo. We have the cheapest prices in the region […] But the situation created Ukraine-Russia also has an impact on prices. In all likelihood, there will be extreme growth, but it is known that in December the production organization OPEC said that in January the market will stabilize, but this is not happening “, said Berjani.
The increase in the price of fuel, which is preceded by the increase in the prices of other products, is unaffordable for the citizens.
Selatin Kaçaniku from the association “Consumer” demands that the state not close its eyes and ears in the face of rising prices. He demands to intervene with fiscal policies as well as to have greater monitoring of companies that deal with fuel trading.
“Oilmen have been conspiring for years that they do not earn more than 6,7,8 maximum 9 cents per liter and if the difference is 9 cents, then here lies the problem. Someone here is not telling the truth and when someone is not telling the truth the government, the Competition Agency all this to come into action[…] The citizen’s pocket has gone bankrupt, 30 percent of those who lived in poverty, have now gone bankrupt and he now has no pocket, he has an endless well which no longer holds money. The government should do what we voted for it to listen to us and not live far from us or at a distance from us, but let it know that it has been and still is part of the people, part of the sovereign, the citizen and the consumer family. “The government must convince us that it is coexisting with us and not convince us that it is debating with us from a distance, we need this government,” he said.
Citizens say the increase is unaffordable but they need to check at gas stations where it is cheaper.
“It’s probably a little difficult, but one has to look at these points that are a little cheaper. It is a bit difficult because in some points it is writing 1 and 33 cents, and in some it is cheaper, one determines where it is cheaper “, said Flamur Kelmendi for KosovaPress.
