UK Cabinet Minister Michael Gove said on Sunday that Britain intends to use the homes and properties of Russian individuals sanctioned for humanitarian purposes.
“There is a high enough legal obstacle to cross and we are not talking about permanent confiscation, but we are saying ‘You’ sanctioned. You are supporting Putin. This house is here, you have no right to use or benefit from it and, more than that, while you are not using or benefiting from it, if we can use it to help others, let’s do it this, ”Gove said.
He stressed that those assets can be used as long as someone is properly sanctioned.
Britain has sanctioned about 800, including Russia’s most important and highly valued individuals, entities and affiliates, from banks, Putin’s inner circle and oligarchs.
