A researcher has recreated a strange childhood friend – a microwave oven – by installing artificial intelligence (AI) in it, and the results were somewhat “killer”.
Blogger Lucas Rizzotto is known for his experiments on the ‘Lucas Builds the Future’ channel and he posts videos about new technologies.
In one of the most-watched sequences that has already gone viral on the web, Rizzotto tells users about his efforts to recreate “his favorite imaginary childhood friend” that had been the microwave oven called the Magnetron. So to make it as “alive” as possible he installed artificial intelligence in it.
Rizzotto explains that after buying the new oven, he installed in it a sophisticated AI system called GPT-3.
The system was capable of imitating human language and creating sentences after giving commands.
Rizzotto further says that he had written a 100-page book to remind Magnetron of the previous life between the two, so that she had a past to which to refer.
Rizzotto says the experiment was “one of the scariest and most transformative experiences of his life.”
Rizzotto says he was already capable of communicating his microwave, but one of the downsides of the issue was that it shows episodes of extreme violence against him.
The AI intelligence system enabled the man to give commands by turning on the car for a specified time.
But at one point, the machine wanted to use this murderously, as it suddenly asked Rizzotto “please get in the microwave.”
The surprised boy had responded by falsely telling him that “he had just done this”.
At that point the GPT-3 system commanded the microwave to turn on.
At the end of the experiment Rizzotto decided to turn off the system for now.
Addressing the disbelievers, the researcher said: “Whatever your view on this, the ‘food’ I’m getting from this story is that artificial intelligence will be like some imaginary companion.
“It may not be the case at all whether it is true or not. “It may or may not be true of the way you look at it.”
