The reason is that Russian forces are attacking civilians so they are afraid they will be killed rather than go outside.
“No, we can not leave, we just have some bunkers under the house. I left Kiev but I have many friends in Chernihiv. I’m in the western part of Ukraine. I am not with my family now because my mother is a doctor and had to stay in town. People in the east should not leave the house, so they should stay inside without food, nor can the volunteers feed them. We have some volunteers who help people, we have a lot of humanitarian aid, anyone who needs help, gets it but it is not easy to leave either.
It is difficult to leave because the streets are full of Russian soldiers, it is a real war in Ukraine. They are killing civilians, they do not care who you are, they will kill. My friends who left Ukraine stayed 30-50 hours at the border. I decided to stay here because I was born here and I am going to die here. “I am proud to be Ukrainian.” said Iryna Voloshyna.
