Eight soldiers and police lost their lives during today’s protests in Kazakhstan where 317 people were injured.
Protests have started due to the increase in the price of liquefied gas. Protests are taking place in Almaty, the financial capital of Kazakhstan, with demonstrators attacking and occupying the town hall, breaking windows and entering the mayor’s office.
Since yesterday, Kazakh police have repeatedly thrown stunning grenades at thousands of demonstrators who took to the streets.
Demonstrators had gathered in a town square and were marching towards the main building of the local administration.
According to the police, which has deployed the National Guard and the army, there are “extremists” in action who have taken control of the crowd, beating several hundred civilians.
President Kassym-Yomart Tokayev uses the police version, arguing that there are people manipulated by “foreign powers” who want to “blow up stability” in the country and “break the unity” of the people.
