‘Life could soon be back to normal’, after two difficult pandemic years, says Pfizer Inc. chief executive Albert Bourla in an interview with Le Figaro.
“Soon we will be able to resume a normal life, thanks to all the tools at our disposal: tests, highly effective vaccines and the first treatments that can be taken at home.” , said Bourla.
Now in addition to making the best-selling vaccine in collaboration with Germany’s BioNTech, the American drugmaker is introducing an antiviral pill called Paxlovid that has been shown to significantly reduce hospitalizations and deaths from Covid-19 in clinical trials.
Bourla said the pandemic could soon turn into an endemic phase in which we would have to learn to live with the virus, just as they do with the flu.
The CEO of Pfizer warned that this does not mean that the new coronavirus will disappear.
“We have had so many surprises since the beginning of the pandemic,” he said. “We will probably have to live for years with a virus that is very difficult to eradicate.”
