The list of security proposals submitted this week by Russia to the US and NATO is a broad agreement needed to reduce tensions between Moscow and the Western military bloc, Moscow diplomats said today.
“These two texts are not a menu from which you can choose the one you prefer. They are complementary to each other and should be considered as a whole “, said for the issue deputy. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov.
The two documents were handed over yesterday to Karen Donfried, Assistant to the US Department of State for European and Eurasian Affairs.
They set out Russia’s position on what needs to be done to reduce tensions with NATO member states, which for several years now seem to be growing for incomprehensible reasons.
One deals with specific Russia-US relations while the other on Russia’s relations with the entire Washington-dominated bloc.
NATO’s response was simply to accept the proposals and repeat the accusations that Moscow is to blame for the escalation of tensions.
Their statement said Russia had committed “significant and unprovoked military accumulation in the border area with Ukraine “, and that it makes” false provocations against NATO and Ukraine “ .
Russia says NATO refuses to acknowledge its legitimate security concerns, so this only leads to dangerous escalations.
Ryabkov stressed: “We make proposals but receive ultimatums in response, and under the pretext of ultimatums continue dangerous activities with consequences for the national interests. “We can no longer tolerate this.”
He added that the US and NATO should drop their accusatory stances and take Moscow’s latest proposals seriously.
“NATO and Washington must stop hostile activities against our nation, including unannounced military maneuvers with warships and aircraft, as well as stop military developments in Ukraine, ” he said.
