The British media today continued to cover unexplained obstacles and delays for family members and vacationers to leave the country, with long queues at the country’s airports and ports, justified by staff shortages.
The easyJet airline was one of the hardest hit with hundreds of canceled flights arguing that it was “not employing enough staff due to strict labor market rules” or that “there were more jobs than job seekers”, according to Daily Mail.
To exacerbate the problems was an electronic blockage of easyJet’s network that canceled 14 flights from London Gatwick Airport today, after about 200 flights were canceled in the past few days.
Also the plans of Liverpool English fans to attend the Champions League final on Saturday in Paris against Real Madrid have taken a hit after the chaos of flights and the cancellation of departures from Manchester and Bristol airports.
Other passengers affected by the delays were those from the capital of Northern Ireland towards Corfu and Dalaman for the early summer holidays.
There have been long queues at London’s Heathrow Luton airports, with the industrial group Unite saying the problems could continue throughout the season from “staff shortages”.
Meanwhile vehicle traffic was overcrowded towards the southern ports of Dover where family members were left stranded waiting to cross to the mainland.
Regarding the delays, the ferry group P&O Ferries said that passengers have to wait up to 2.5 hours to pass the security checks, and if they miss the ferry “you will be first on the list for the next vehicle”.
