The psychiatrist who oversaw the Norwegian extremist who killed 77 people, mostly teenagers and teenagers in 2011 and is already seeking early release from prison, said today that Anders Behring Breivik’s diagnosis “remains the same as it has been from the beginning.”
Breivik is serving Norway’s maximum sentence of 21 years in prison for the bombing of government offices in Oslo and then the gun massacre at a rest camp for the youth of the then ruling left.
Under country law he was eligible for the first parole hearing after 10 years.
Yesterday’s hearing took place in the high-security prison in Skien, south of the capital Oslo. Psychiatrist Randi Rosenqvist said today that 42-year-old Breivik “is no different in terms of risk for other acts of violence in the future, compared to the first assessment given to him after the massacre in 2012.
“There is no coherence in his allegations, he can not be trusted,” Rosenqvist said as he testified for prosecutors. Speaking about Breivik’s behavior after the massacre, she said that “tactics often change according to what seems most appropriate”.
“It simply came to our notice then. There is still a tendency to build scenarios. “It is not psychotic, but in different contexts, fairy tales can live within reality.”
Although experts acknowledge that there was little evidence of Breivik’s early release, authorities insist that he has the same rights as any other prisoner, and that denying them would undermine the principles of the rule of law and the right to freedom of expression.
Breivik said yesterday that he had renounced violence, although he had previously advocated ideas of white supremacy and made Nazi salutes.
“Everyone has this chance. I have been crushed and torn to pieces for 10 years. “I have changed so much that it is not possible to change yet,” said Breivik.
The decision is expected to be made soon.
