The judge said the 36-year-old committed a low-key and persistent sexual assault
A police sergeant in Britain has been jailed for 10 years for raping a paralyzed woman who gave birth to his child after the rape.
Ben Lister was found guilty of sexually assaulting and raping the woman he was staying with in a house after they had been to a bar in 2016.
Prosecutors said the 36-year-old police officer had pulled the drunken woman from the sofa where he was sleeping and started touching her sexually, while she was at intervals, sometimes awake and sometimes unconscious.
Bradford Judge Jonathan Rose said in a statement that the defendant had contacted the woman a day later, “to see if he had pleaded guilty to having sex with an unconscious woman”.
When the victim asked him if they had had sex, the judge said Lister “started a series of lies” saying that they had not had sex, but some sexual activity.
The woman later found out she was pregnant and there learned that she had been raped, the court was told.
DNA tests showed Lister was the baby’s father.
The woman contacted police in January 2020 and Lister was arrested and questioned.
He denied the rape, saying the sexual contact between the two was consensual.
In a statement to the court, the woman says that she loves her daughter very much, born as a result of rape.
“I was not having a good pregnancy and I thought I should not keep the baby. “I knew very well what had happened to me and how she was conceived.”
“I did not have an abortion because I was afraid they would ask me questions that I was not ready to explain at the time.
The woman added: “She is a small and loving girl and I am terrified of the future. “I do not want him to hate me when he grows up, even though I did not do anything wrong.”
The judge told Lister: “You took advantage of her, knowing she could not physically reject you. “You were a police officer even though off duty.”
