A policeman and a demonstrator lost their lives today in protests against the army intervention on October 25, 2021 and its subsequent decisions.
With the call of the Resistance Committees, thousands of protesters calling for the establishment of a civilian government took to the streets today in the capital Khartoum and several other cities.
Protesters marched on the Presidential Palace, chanting anti-coup slogans and demanding that government be handed over to civilians as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, Sudanese police dispersed tear gas demonstrators and sound bombs.
As a result of the police intervention, dozens of protesters were affected by the gas.
According to a statement from the Medical Committee, a protester was killed by live ammunition in the town of Bahri, north of the capital Khartoum.
Meanwhile, police also reported that a police officer lost his life.
Otherwise, a total of 64 people have lost their lives and hundreds have been injured in the protests that have been going on since October 25, 2021.
Prime Minister Abdullah Hamduk, who returned to office to form a technocratic government after the October 25th military intervention in Sudan, resigned on January 2nd due to inability to resolve the country’s political crisis and disputes with the military.
The United Nations and the Intergovernmental Authority for the Development of the East African Bloc (IGAD) launched initiatives on January 10 and 11, respectively, to resolve the political crisis.
