One of the most successful applications in Kosovo, called “Road”, the platform that offers innovation for transport, reducing costs by sharing the vehicle with other passengers, will soon work in Tirana.
The Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, received the Executive Director of “Innovation Center Kosovo”, Uranik Begu and Eroll Gorçi, the director of the platform “Road”, who greeted them for innovative ideas and many applications used today by many citizens.
Veliaj said that the application “Road”, created by talented young people, is a very good way to save. “We spend a lot of time promoting foreign ideas and projects, but we forget the great ideas we have here, in our home. We need applications like yours, but also other ways to save at a time when the price of oil and gasoline has risen. This means that before a challenge we always have two options: The first is to give up, as the simplest and most boring choice; the second is to create innovation, to adapt. I believe in the latter. “We adapted during the pandemic, during the earthquake, and so we must adapt now,” said Veliaj.
The “Road” application not only reduces the cost of transport for citizens, but also serves to reduce traffic. “We do not have the price of oil and energy in our hands, so we have to change our behavior. But how can we do that? Walking further, Tirana has short distances. Using the bus, for this we also have a green line. Using the bicycle, Tirana has 300 days of sunshine, while 70% of the city has flat terrain. But, the question is: What about the long distances, when people say, – “I can not go to Durrës, or to Rinas by bicycle, or on foot, with suitcases in my arms?” The “Track” application answers this question. So, the space is maximized, the financial cost is minimized, dividing the costs together. “The most important thing is to reduce traffic,” he said.
The Executive Director of Innovation Center Kosovo, Uranik Begu thanked the Mayor for supporting such initiatives, especially in the field of start-ups. “It is a pleasure when we as ‘Inavation Center’ in Kosovo have the opportunity to bring start-ups of Kosovo in Tirana, but also vice versa. This year is the year of Tirana, the year of Youth and within the activities we want to bring the spirit of Kosovo youth to Tirana. Thank you for the permanent support “, said Begu.
The leaders of the team “Udhë”, Eroll Gorçi, said that this platform unites drivers with passengers, enabling them to reduce costs and an alternative in transport. “We have been operating in Kosovo for 1 year and we are slowly starting to expand in Albania,” said Gorçi.
Veliaj expressed support for such initiatives, which are at the forefront of technological development and which serve the citizens. Last year in Tirana was held the first edition of Techstars Startup Weekend Balkans, which was attended by 5 countries and 100 participants.
