Large plumes of black smoke covered the port city of Odessa in the early hours of Sunday morning. The Russians had struck the pearl of the Black Sea.
Serhii Bratchuk, spokesman for the Operations Headquarters of the Odessa regional military administration, said the Russians had hit a fuel depot and other critical areas with at least six rockets, while it is not yet known if there are any casualties.
The coastal city of Odessa has been a place apparently far from Russian occupation and a haven for Ukrainians displaced from areas that have experienced the fiercest fighting. But Odessa has been preparing for a Russian attack for weeks, with the city center filled with anti-tank barricades.
Meanwhile the British military intelligence said it has seen a concentration of Russian air activities in southeastern Ukraine, suggesting it is part of Moscow’s strategic refocus on the region.
While Russian forces are not yet capable of a ground landing in Ukraine, the UK says this would be a dangerous operation. This is because, according to British military intelligence, Ukrainian forces now have the opportunity to prepare for such a thing.
On the other hand in the updated information regarding military operations, Ukraine says that their army has repulsed several Russian attacks.
“In the territory of Donetsk and Luhansk [Donbas] “Ukrainian defenders have repulsed six enemy attacks, destroying four tanks, six units of armored vehicles and seven other units of enemy vehicles.”
