Russia has reported a record daily coronavirus infections, recording 180,071 new cases.
This figure represents a huge increase compared to last month, as the highly contagious variant, Omicron is continuing to spread across the country.
The new cases, released on February 6 by the state coronavirus task force, show an increase of about 2,800 infections compared to the previous day.
Russia has been facing a new wave of pandemics since mid-January. Prior to this wave, this state recorded about 17,000 daily infections.
Despite the increase in new cases, the task force reported that the number of deaths has started to fall, while in the previous 24 hours 661 victims were registered.
Since the start of the pandemic, the Russian task force has reported 12.8 million infections and 335,414 deaths.
Russian President Vladimir Putin said last week that his government is considering easing some restrictions against the coronavirus, despite the increase in cases.
He told business leaders that authorities are not planning to impose isolation or other restrictions due to the new wave and that the government is considering removing some restrictions on people who have been in contact with people infected with COVID-19. .
Faced with the biggest wave of the pandemic to date, Russian authorities have generally refused to impose harsh restrictions and have consistently ruled out the possibility of imposing the isolation measure.
Russia had in effect only a six-week isolation in 2020, and in October 2021 many people were ordered to work from home for a week.
In recent weeks, some Russian regions have begun imposing restrictions on people under the age of 18, as officials have stressed that the latest wave of pandemics is affecting more children.
Just last month, coronavirus vaccination of 12-17 year olds started in Russia.
Only half of Russia’s population of 146 million has been vaccinated so far, although Russia was the first country to introduce its coronavirus vaccine, Sputnik V./REL/
