Following the withdrawal of the American fast food chain McDonald’s, a new network has been opened in Russia that seeks to replace the American company.
The new chain of fast food stores in Russia carries the message “Delicious and so”.
The owners of the new chain, whose Russian names are “Vkusno” and “Tochka”, say that initially 15 renamed restaurants will reopen throughout Russia, with more to come in the coming months.
Dozens of Russians lined up on June 12 at a famous Moscow site where McDonald’s first opened its doors 30 years ago.
Oleg Paroev, the chief executive of the company that took over McDonald’s facilities, said they plan to reopen 200 restaurants in Russia by the end of June and all 850 stores nationwide by the end of the summer.
“Our goal is for our guests not to notice differences in either quality or environment.” Paroev was quoted as saying at a news conference.
Paroev said the new network will retain its old McDonald’s interior, but will remove any reference to its old name.
The reopening of fast-food outlets is seen as a test of whether, and how Russia’s economy can withstand Western sanctions imposed after Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24.
At the time of its withdrawal from Russia, McDonald’s said it employed 62,000 workers across Russia. McDonald’s was one of the first companies to withdraw from Russia after the Russian occupation of Ukraine. Many big world companies did the same./REL
