The Somali National Army (SNA) claimed to have killed more than 50 members of the al-Shabaab group, including two senior commanders, in an operation in the lower Shabelle region.
The military operation against the al-Qaeda-linked terrorist group based in Somalia took place in Mushaani, Daniga and Majabta, according to Somali army radio.
Military officials in the region who spoke to AA confirmed the operation.
Odawa Army Chief of Staff Yusuf Rageh told military radio on Friday that among the terrorists killed were Moalim Bukhari, the group’s chief of intelligence in lower Shabelle, and Sheikh Hassan Ganeey, the region’s commander.
He said al-Shabaab training camps in the villages were also destroyed.
At least 20 al-Shabaab terrorists were killed Thursday in a military operation in the region.
