From the “Ismail Qemali” gymnasium in Tirana, the implementation of the three-year project “Stay in School” started today, which supports the current educational policies of the Ministry of Education for the prevention of school dropout among students and young people.
Present at this event were the Minister of Education and Sports, Evis Kushi, Deputy Minister of Finance and Economy, Olta Manjani, Minister of State for Youth and Children, Bora Muzhaqi, Italian Ambassador to Albania, Fabrizio Bucci and UNICEF Representative in Albania, Roberto De Bernardi.
During her speech, the Minister of Education and Sports, Mrs. Evis Kushi stressed that this project is closely related to the main priority of MES.
She said that despite the improvements that the education system has undergone, the school infrastructure, the strengthening of educational institutions, the training of teachers and the many reforms undertaken, it is still a reality that there are individuals and students who drop out of school for various reasons.
“When we talk about school dropout we refer to basic education, but the time has come for us to pay very important attention to those young people who leave high school., said Mrs. Who.
Speaking about school dropout in basic education, she said that this percentage is 0.51%. Meanwhile, 96% of students who finish 9th grade continue their upper secondary education. 1.31% is the ratio of students who do not attend further studies, of whom most are boys.
According to the analysis, leaving school occurs for several reasons: the distance from school to home, the need to help the family to increase income, as well as being with different abilities.
But the Ministry of Education for each of these, has certain policies to reduce school dropout. For the distance of school from home, the transport reimbursement policy for students and teachers helps, as well as the increase of the reimbursement by 50% of the transport ticket for students.
For students with different abilities in all schools of the country there are about 1300 assistant teachers who are continuously trained.
According to Minister Kushi, the awareness against school dropout starts with the close cooperation between school principals, teachers, assistant teachers, security officers and employees of the Psycho-Social service, together with the family and the community.
Kushi expressed gratitude to the Italian Ambassador in Tirana, Fabrizio Bucci and the UNICEF representative, Roberto De Bernardi for the cooperation and continuous support they give to the education system in Albania, and in particular for the newest project “Stay at School”.
