The fifth wave of coronavirus and the high intensity of new cases of COVID-19, has pushed the Swiss authorities to tighten measures against coronavirus, restoring work from home.
Measures will also be tightened against those who have not yet been vaccinated. The new measures come as authorities predict the Omicron variant is more contagious than previous variants.
“Only those who have been vaccinated or treated will have access to indoor spaces, restaurants, cultural institutions and sports facilities,” the Federal Council said in a statement. Private gatherings will be limited to only 10 people.
The vast majority of patients in intensive care in Switzerland are unvaccinated. The Minister of Health in Switzerland, Alain Berset, said that “the number has tripled in the last month”.
More than 66 percent of Switzerland’s 8.6 million population has been vaccinated, with the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines.
