The Special Court of Appeals for Corruption and Organized Crime on Friday ruled in favor of former Interior Minister Saimir Tahiri. The court upheld the first instance decision, with the change that Tahiri will serve in prison the sentence of 5 years in prison.
Due to the reduction of the sentence, Tahiri will spend 3 years and 4 months in prison. According to the procedure, the former minister must immediately start serving his sentence in an ordinary security prison, which will be the prison “313 ” in Tirana.
Former Minister Tahiri is allowed to appeal to the Supreme Court, 45 days from the issuance of this decision.
According to the court, Tahiri with his actions and inactions has influenced the spread of the phenomenon of cannabis cultivation. He was charged with the criminal offense of “Abuse of Duty”.
