Albanian athletes managed to be among the best in the Balkan League of Athletics Halls held in Istanbul, Turkey.
The 3 medals won by Luiza Gega and Izmir Smajlaj make it possible again for our country to be on the podium of the queen of sports.
Both red and black athletes show the emotions of the race that has already become a tradition for them, as Luiza Gega wins for the 8th time this gold medal in this Balkan event.
“It is very difficult to maintain these levels for a long period, but when you win so many times an activity becomes necessary to get that medal.” says athlete Luiza Gega.
But unlike previous years in this edition the medal also had a financial reward of 1 million ALL and Luiza Gega shows her effort to hold 2 races within 45 minutes.
“This was one of the reasons I decided to do two races within 45-50 minutes, in one I succeeded in the other not because the reward is only the gold medal, but ok it is so because the race can be left without anything” , says Gega.
Meanwhile, Izmir Smajlaj is proclaimed Balkan champion for the sixth time in his long jump. At first glance it looks like a personalized race but the athlete from Shkodra shows that this League looks more like a European because of the participation.
“I can call it the Balkan leagues because every year even more athletes participate here, in this edition were present 23 countries, half of Europe”, says Izmir Smajlaj.
This activity for Smajlaj closes the edition of the hall competitions, to start the preparations for the next activities.
“We are already waiting for the Mediterranean Games, then it will be the European Championship that will be my goals to get the maximum”, says Smajlaj.
Meanwhile, Luiza Gega will take part on March 17 in the World Indoor Athletics Championships to be held in Belgrade.
