The mayor and chairman of the Socialist Party for Tirana, Erion Veliaj, welcomed the opening of negotiations for Albania’s membership in the European Union.
From the Socialist Assembly of Unit 14 in Kashar, where he heard the platforms of the candidates for president of the SP and presented Plarent Ndreca as the political leader of the SP for Unit 14 and Kashar, Veliaj underlined that this is a great achievement for Albania, which thanks to the leadership of the prime minister and the chairman of the SP, Edi Rama, got what he deserved.
“The history of opening negotiations with the EU should have ended and the Prime Minister, with his efforts as a leader, brought the dignity of Albania as never before. We are indeed a modest country, but the history of negotiations should have ended, also thanks to Ed’s leadership and positive pressure, to show that we may not be the richest country, but we have dignity; we may not be a large people in numbers, but we have personality; maybe we are not the best in the world, but we did our homework better than anyone else”, said Veliaj.
He underlined that, unlike Berisha’s time, Albania is now treated with dignity by the international community. Veliaj added that during the socialist government, our country headed the OSCE and the UN Security Council, something that has never happened before. “We have had history when most of the world avoided Saliu, because it was dirty. Today we are in a situation where Albania is really a small country, but it led the OSCE, had the presidency of the Security Council at the UN, is a member of the Security Council. Today, there is no personality in the world who, when it comes to Edi Rama and Albania, does not show respect and treats us with dignity, which has never existed before. This is the truth!”, declared the mayor.
Bringing attention to the protests of the opposition, which blocked the Great Ring Road construction project for three years, Veliaj emphasized that those who burned the tires were only a noisy minority. “That investment was blocked for us for three years and people thought that the blockers were the majority. But, the majority is silent and speaks on the day of voting. On the day of the voting, “Astiri” spoke and gave the victory to the Socialist Party, where people work. All of Albania thought that only people who burn tires live in “Astiri”, but this is not the case! They were a very small percentage. Here we are today! Being a democrat means respecting others. Whether they were legalized or illegal, they were paid. “Whoever had the building next to the highway, with the coefficient he got and the buildings that were built there, today not only did not win, but today he won the lottery,” added Veliaj.
The mayor of Tirana assured that the investments in Kashar will continue even at the capillary level, as he emphasized that the value of the property has doubled even for the democrats themselves. “After the Great Ring is finished, we have to continue on a capillary level inside each neighborhood. Today, even Saliu’s property value has doubled. Even Ilir Meta’s property value has doubled. Even Luli, all the villas whose property value has doubled. We gave up without discriminating against anyone, everyone passes on the same roads”, underlined Veliaj.
