A young man who had passed the security cordon while trying to enter Buckingham Palace in London, told the court yesterday that he “wanted to meet the Queen”.
Connor Attridge, 28, was arrested outside the palace on May 29, the day before the start of the Queen’s birthday celebrations.
He said he had passed the main gate when the roadblock was raised to allow a car to pass.
Attridge then refused to stop when told to by the staff but they followed him and subsequently stopped him.
Attridge, from Eastbourne on Britain’s east coast, has several tattoos on his face, one of which reads ‘Truly blessed’, and is believed to be suffering from mental problems.
Judge Louisa Cieciora said she wanted to close Attridge’s case in the first instance, or otherwise “get the relevant medical records”.
Defense lawyer Shusmita Deb said: “He suffers from significant mental problems, his father has said that he suffers from two different psychotic disorders. He lives in Eastbourne and his dad spent £149 on the train to bring him here.”
The accused has been granted bail with an electronic monitoring bracelet and is not allowed to enter London.
