After more than 20 years of private administration, the pool complex at the lake dam is now under the administration of the Municipality of Tirana. These premises have been transformed and today the first competition of the swimming championship took place.
Mayor Erion Veliaj said that these spaces are available both for young swimmers and for the community.
Veliaj: Here we have a space for the best of swimming. But, we also have a relaxing space for families, as well as a camp for children, who come from families with economic problems, who cannot go to the beach, but have the opportunity to visit Tirana’s swimming pools, to spend some beautiful summer memories . Where there’s a will, there’s a way to make everyone happy. Today I am very proud that we start a new chapter for swimming.
In his speech, Veliaj also focused on delays in projects due to political opponents, whom he said cannot hinder the development.
Veliaj: With the swimming team, we had a long-term dream after the end of the 20-year contract of the administrators of this space. I’m sorry to say it, but like any effort in Albania, with a lot of sacrifice, everything turns into a mountain of courts and misunderstandings. This country would be better if we had a little understanding. When a school like the ‘Sami Frashëri’ gymnasium is built, politics should not interfere. When a space is vacated, as the 7 Dwarfs were, to make a parking lot downstairs and a playground upstairs, politics should not mix. When the swimming pools are released, be they Olympic pools, or pools for amateurs and children, politics should not interfere here either.
