A 5-year-old child from Morocco has shocked the world, after he was found dead inside a well at a depth of 32 meters.
Baptized with the name “little Ryan”, the world was under fever for five days for the little boy, whose fate was still unknown under the well. Although the most sophisticated means were used to save him, fate did not shoot at Ryan’s side.
“The fall of a child who reminded the world of the values of humanity,” read the headline of a Moroccan newspaper, while others lamented the “tragic epilogue” that had brought “sadness and shock.”
The boy’s father said he had been repairing the well when the boy fell inside, near the family home in the village of Ighrane in the Rif Mountains of northern Morocco. After hearing the tragic news about the boy, they expressed great sorrow for his loss and thanked everyone who had helped.
Throughout the major excavation operation to extract Rayan from the bottom of the well shaft, authorities had warned that they did not know if he was alive.
The shaft, only 45 centimeters wide, was too narrow to approach the boy directly, and its expansion was considered too dangerous, so the earth movers dug a wide slope into the hill to reach it from the side.
The President of France, Emanuel Macron and many other leaders have offered all their condolences. Pope Francis, while mourning Rayan’s loss, praised the “beautiful” look and the way “all the people came together” in an attempt to save a child.
