Minister Olta Xhaçka in her first speech at the meeting of the UN Security Council, after Albania’s membership in this council, spoke in the debate on “Women, Peace and Security”.
“It is a sad truth of history. While men currently cause most of the fighting, women often carry their main weight. We Albanians have learned a lesson from our history. We saw this in Kosovo. Women were left behind to take care of their families, women were left behind to collect the leftovers. Women were raped, tortured and killed as deliberate targets of a criminal ethnic cleansing campaign“, Said Xhaçka.
The women activists, Olta Xhaçka said, face threats and dangers, including kidnappings and disappearances by government authorities, and even murder.
“Support and make available resources to relevant UN organizations to provide all necessary protection and support to women human rights activists, peacebuilders and civil society representatives at risk, including those at risk. informed the Security Council or engaged in other qualities with the UN system”.
“There can be no peace without women and it would be unforgivable to exclude half of humanity from efforts aimed at international peace and security,” said Olta Xhaçka in the Security Council.
