Citizens in Kukës this evening have started to celebrate Summer Day, the day of separation from winter.
In Kukës and the surrounding villages, fires with old wood or bushes are traditionally lit as a warning for Summer Day. But this ritual has lost its tradition for years, as car tires are being used to light fires by children.
Dozens of tires piled up tonight near homes, palaces and squares to be set on fire the night before March 14th. The fire service has so far extinguished 10 fires with tires.
The burning of car tires brought a massive pollution of the environment and serious danger to the building of a 9-year school and a city nursery, as the tires ignited in their yards.
Another phenomenon is the burning of waste bins and their overturning in the alleys of neighborhoods causing blockage of the movement of vehicles and pedestrians.
