Klotilda Bushka, chairwoman of the Law Commission spoke to “Top Talk” about justice reform, revealing that a proposal has been made for the vetting process to continue until the end of 2024.
On the other hand, Bushka said that there are some issues without consideration for a number of factors, one of which is vetting, so the process that was expected to be completed within June this year, is expected to be postponed for another 2 years.
Bushka: Vetting is one of the pillars of justice reform. All judges and prosecutors of the Republic of Albania have undergone a temporary process of verification of their wealth, integrity and professionalism in order to create a body of high public trust and high professional, moral and ethical integrity in society that guarantees efficiency in the justice system.
It is a temporary process that has a deadline. The Constitution stipulates that this deadline expires in June 2022. Given the fact that many factors such as the pandemic have delayed many processes in various sectors and could not leave it untouched by the vetting process, it is not possible to this process takes place within June 2022. For this reason, when more than 1/3 of the issues remain unresolved, an extension of the deadline is proposed. This proposal envisages to continue successfully closing all vetting issues by December 31, 2024. So let’s give you a postponement.
