Today, the Mayor Erion Veliaj held a meeting with the deans and rectors of the public universities of the capital, following the preparation of the program for the European Youth Capital. While recalling the time when the battle for closing universities like “Vitrina” and “Kristali” took place, mentioning the investments made in universities, Veliaj underlined that this battle had to start somewhere, so that today young people receive the right education.
Veliaj affirmed that the same situation is happening with the battle with the AFF, so that the situation with sports in the country to change and open the way for children and young people to pursue their dreams.
This work could not be done with “Kristale” and “Vitrina”. When we started that battle, I believe you remember the cynical chorus that said: you can not break the “Crystal” or the “Showcase”. They had connections with the media, they had televisions themselves, they had connections with politics, they paid for election campaigns of all kinds of politicians, they had connections with portals that fined the government. Meanwhile, here we are today! Even the greatest cynic must admit that the reform worked. Today, those who had returned home diploma typography, no longer exist. Today you can say with full mouth that the generation that graduates has a degree that is worth it. They need to remember that we won some battles when we mobilized as a society. “Their gang was invincible, but the society was mobilized and here we are today: the University of Tirana was liberated from a gang”, Veliaj recalled.
For the mayor, like any other battle fought in Tirana, for the concrete mixers, for the Lake Park, for the universities, the battle with the AFF will show that there is no untouchable.
“Yesterday someone asked me: Why didn’t you deal with the AFF earlier? I told him, because before that I had another battle, the one with the concrete mixers. Even for that battle they said it is impossible, but here we are today. Independence does not mean being untouchable! This city and this country has battles every day. In the beginning it was the battle for informality because neither water nor lights were paid for, so we practically stole our house. Then, it was the battle of the universities, because it was impossible to tell a young man that the diplomas of “Kristal” and “Vitrina” would lead to life. It was a big lie! A great abuse and theft. It was impossible to uproot some boils within the universities. Here we are today! It was impossible to fight the concrete mixers. Here we are today! There is no battle that is not won if the moral majority of society splits its mind to win this battle. “I have shared my mind about the battle with the AFF”, said Veliaj
