The trial over the murder of Serbian opposition politician and leader of the Civic Initiative “Freedom, Democracy, Justice” (GI, SDP), Oliver Ivanovic, continued at the Basic Court in Pristina on December 16.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
Witness \u00c7.I. was heard at Thursday’s hearing.<\/p>\n
\u00c7.I., a member of the Kosovo Police, stated that Oliver Ivanovi., Whom he had a friend, felt endangered shortly before the murder. Ivanovic even, according to the witness, before he was killed, had addressed the responsible bodies in Kosovo and Serbia.<\/p>\n
According to the defense counsel, witness \u00c7.I. confirmed that there are criminal groups in northern Kosovo, but failed to specify who their leader is. On this topic the witness did not want to talk about security reasons.<\/p>\n
The Special Prosecution of Kosovo has so far filed three indictments, in which there were no major substantive changes.<\/p>\n
The indictment was filed against Nedelko Spasojevic (police officer), Marko Rosic (citizen of North Mitrovica), Silvana Arsic (former secretary of the murdered Ivanovic), Dragisa Markovic (police officer), Zarko Jovanovic (police officer) and Rade Basara ( police officer).<\/p>\n
Zeljko Bojic (chief of operations of the Kosovo Police for the northern region), Milan Radoicic (deputy head of the political entity Serbian List) and Zvonko Veselinovic (businessman) are also involved in this murder. No indictment was filed against them, however, because they were on the run when the Kosovo Prosecution filed the first indictment.<\/p>\n
Radojicic and Veselinovic are mentioned in the indictment as “leaders of the criminal group” that planned the assassination of Serbian politician Ivanovic.<\/p>\n
However, for Milan Radoicic in March this year, the arrest warrant was withdrawn without any explanation and since then he has stayed in northern Kosovo several times.<\/p>\n
“The witness tried to convince the Court that the late Ivanovic begged him to send him photos and information about certain persons. “I can say that he somehow betrayed his service, because these activities are not allowed.”<\/em> Mahmut Halimi, the lawyer of the accused Marko Rosic, told reporters.<\/p>\n All of the defendants in Ivanovic’s murder case had previously pleaded not guilty to the charges against them.<\/p>\n Oliver Ivanovic, leader of the SDP was killed on January 16, 2018 in front of his party headquarters in North Mitrovica.<\/p>\n Milan Radoicic and Zvonko Veselinovic are already on the US Treasury Department’s list of sanctions for “involvement in corrupt networks with international organized crime”.<\/p>\n The sanctions also apply to 10 other people, Serbs from northern Kosovo, who are linked to Veselinovic, whom the US mentions as the leader of a criminal group.<\/p>\n Among them are Zeljko Bojic, whose name is linked to the murder of Ivanovic, and Marko Rosic, who is one of the accused in the case.<\/p>\n US sanctions mean that the property of individuals who have been blacklisted will be blocked until US citizens are barred from cooperating with them.<\/p>\n \n<\/p>\n top channelSuspects in Ivanovic’s assassination on US sanctions list<\/strong><\/h3>\n
