The new variant of the coronavirus disrupted scientists’ predictions for a calmer winter. The rapidly spreading Omicroni is now responsible for 73 percent of cases in the United States, a rate that doctor Anthony Fauci called “unprecedented.”<\/p>\n
However, according to some American researchers, even this new evil seems to have its good side: they think that Omicroni can actually speed up the passage of the virus from pandemic to endemic. “This variant could hasten the end of the pandemic.<\/p>\n
“Sometimes a fire can spread very quickly, and at the same rate it can be extinguished”, says Dr. David Ho, world-renowned virologist and professor at Columbia University.<\/p>\n
Omicron is highly contagious, but according to preliminary data published by the British Public Health Agency, people infected with it are about 50% to 70% less likely to end up in hospital than those affected by the Delta variant.<\/p>\n
