Russian nationalist politician Vladimir Zhirinovsky has suggested military bombing of Ukraine on New Year’s Eve, when many people may be drunk.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
The Russian parliamentarian and leader of the Liberal Democratic Party of Russia made the remarks on December 27 during a television broadcast, as the West viewed with concern Russian troops near Ukraine, and as something that could result in state occupation.<\/p>\n
Zhirinovsky, who is known for his harsh comments, told Channel One that if he were president, he would bomb Ukraine between December 31 and January 1 at 4 am when “everyone is drunk” \u201d.<\/p>\n
“Someone should punish them, someone should intimidate them,” he said a day after suggesting that Russia should annex all of Ukraine.<\/p>\n
Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyroz, also known for his tough leadership in Russia’s Caucasus region, said on December 26 that he was ready to help annex Ukraine.<\/p>\n
“Ukraine must be annexed to our state, this is our territory,” Kadyrov said.<\/p>\n
This harsh rhetoric was reported after the United States and European allies accuse Russia of threatening a possible invasion of Ukraine.<\/p>\n
Russia has already invaded Crimea and is backing separatists in eastern Ukraine who have been fighting for nearly eight years.<\/p>\n
Russia has denied any wrongdoing, accusing Ukraine and NATO of provocations.<\/p>\n
