Authorities in Montenegro are facing a rapid increase in cases of coronavirus infection, following the reporting of the first cases of the Omicron variant of this virus.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
On January 3 alone, authorities reported 12,507 new cases of coronavirus.<\/p>\n
Seven days ago, the daily number of infected was 3,310.<\/p>\n
The Montenegrin Institute of Public Health has said that the Omicron variant of the coronavirus – which was identified 18 days ago in this country – is dominant and is spreading faster than other variants.<\/p>\n
According to statistics, the number of people infected on January 3, compared to two weeks ago, has increased by almost 450 percent.<\/p>\n
The number of victims has decreased by 11 percent.<\/p>\n
“Most of the young patients are in the age group of 20 to 40 years,” the institute said in a statement.<\/p>\n
A total of 169 patients have been hospitalized across the state while 29 of them – infected with coronavirus – are in danger of death.<\/p>\n
According to authorities, 44 per cent of the Montenegrin population has been vaccinated with two doses of the coronavirus vaccine.<\/p>\n
Montenegro has a population of 620,000.<\/p>\n
Since the outbreak of the pandemic, about 175,000 cases of coronavirus infection have been reported in this state.<\/p>\n
Of these, 2,420 people have died.<\/p>\n
