A local administrator in Namibia, Adolf Hitler Uunona, who bears the name of the infamous Nazi dictator, has said before that it is “too late” to change him.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
But now “African Hitler” has been forced to work from home by a coronavirus outbreak in his area.<\/p>\n
The regional administrator told the media that he is working from home since the increase in cases of infection in the northern region of Oshana.<\/p>\n
He added that the authorities were disinfecting all the premises of the city council, including Hitler’s office.<\/p>\n
The official was so named by his father but was elected to the post with 85 per cent of the vote in last year\u2019s elections, for regional councils in Namibia.<\/p>\n
Namibia was formerly known as “Southwest German Africa” \u200b\u200band still has many German names, but Uunona claims his father knew nothing about Hitler’s actions.<\/p>\n
Uunona, of the ruling SWAPO party, told the German daily Bild: “My father gave me that man’s name, but he probably did not know what it meant.”<\/p>\n
“When I was a child it was a very normal name for me. “When I became a teenager I realized that this man wanted to rule the world.”<\/p>\n
The politician usually uses the name Adolf Uunona, and says it is already too late to change it.<\/p>\n
He says: “The fact that I have this name does not mean that I want to rule in Oshana, it does not mean that I want to dominate the world.”<\/p>\n
Namibia still has a small German-speaking community and is visited annually by about 120,000 Germans.<\/p>\n
There are about 30,000 German-Namibians in the country known as ‘Deutschnamibier’ and they have even created their own flag for special events.<\/p>\n
About 0.9 percent of Namibians speak German as their first language, according to a 2011 census.<\/p>\n
The German government has previously said it has a “special responsibility” to Namibia from its “common colonial past”.<\/p>\n
