But thanks to the help of the Google Maps app, the 61-year-old was tracked down in Galapagar, Spain, a small town near Madrid, where he lived under a false name.<\/p>\n<p>A Google Maps street photo depicting a man who looked like he was in front of a grocery store turned on the spark to spark a deeper investigation.  &#8220;The photo helped us confirm the investigation we were conducting in the traditional way,&#8221; said Nicola Altiero, deputy director of the Italian anti-mafia police unit, DIA.<\/p>\n<p>Gammino, a member of a Sicilian mafia group called Stidda, escaped from Rome&#8217;s Rebibbia prison in 2002 and in 2003 was sentenced to life in prison for a murder committed several years ago.  He was quickly handcuffed by Spanish authorities and is currently in custody.
