Dozens of Serbian Orthodox swam today for the “Holy Cross” in the icy waters of the Sava River in Belgrade.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
The water temperature was 2.6 \u00b0 C while the air temperature was 6 \u00b0 C but this did not stop the believers of the Day of the Epiphany of Christ.<\/p>\n
11-year-old swimmer Nemanja Xhelosevic said that he felt cold despite his great motivation.<\/p>\n
“I manage to do this with the support of God, whether it is cold or not. “But it was really cold today.”<\/p>\n
His mother, Vesna Xhelosevic, said she fully supported the initiative:<\/p>\n
“I have faith in him and in God. I know God is with him and protects him, so I trust him. “I have faith in the strength of my son and in God.”<\/p>\n
The other older swimmer, Bogdan Jovicic, also spoke with emotion about the challenge:<\/p>\n
“It is a little cold but when you swim for the Holy Cross there is a warmth that surrounds you.”<\/p>\n
“In fact it is not as difficult as it may seem when you see it from the shore. I’m doing this for the 18th time.<\/p>\n
“Today is not one of the most difficult days as there is not much difference between water and air temperatures.”<\/p>\n
Epiphany is a festival of the Christian religion that is celebrated in early or mid-January and celebrates the arrival of the “Wise Men” who came to see Christ after birth.<\/p>\n
